Q. I can on yahoo football message boards but on the finance board I can't. Are the finance board's pay sites?
Asked by John E - Wed Jan 27 19:30:19 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I am having trouble on a Yahoo Group also. No new messages have posted for the last several hours. I posted a bunch to see what was going on, and none of them have showed up. Was able to email a couple of members, but they aren't seeing any new messages either. I don't know if this is a universal problem, or if yours is a separate issue, but just throwing my 2 cents in. If anyone else is experiencing issues, I wish they would speak up.

What is the point of Yahoo message boards when the same can be achieved here in answers?
Q. In going to Yahoo message boards, I see no real difference in the service provided compared to Yahoo Answers.
Asked by Tinman12 - Sun Aug 30 18:51:52 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. According to Answers Help pages: Unlike a message board, where a thread of messages can continue indefinitely without ever getting resolved, the questions in Yahoo! Answers are resolved when a best answer is picked. After questions are resolved, members who have reached Level 2 can rate the Best Answer and everyone in the community can continue to share their opinions .

How does Yahoo deal with abusive posters on financial message boards?
Q. I have reported abusive posts on a couple Yahoo financial message boards (specific company's boards). Many of these posts are from the same accounts, over-and-over. Yahoo seems to deal with the post in about 24 hours. Does Yahoo ever remove the accounts that are responsible for the repeated abuse? Do they attempt to shut down this abuse based on the IP address from which they eminate? etc...?

A. 1. are you being overly sensitive because someone disagrees with you & are you're playing TOS tag? if they get enough legit complaints from different users they'll simply delete the offending account. mostly they tell you to use the ignore feature to block posts by certain posters. to the best of my experience having multiple yahoo accounts, they don't block based on IP address.

Why do you require visa card info to sign a child up for yahoo to participate on message boards?
Q. I just tried to sign my child up with a Yahoo ID to participate on the math message boards, but it would not let me continue without visa card information. Why do you need that information? I thought this was a free service.
Asked by fabules - Wed Sep 13 18:50:49 2006 - - 4 Answers - 1 Comments

A. No one asked me for visa information to sign-up for Yahoo and I would never give them that info anyway. Indeed if I were you, I would check that it was Yahoo and not a phishing site that you entered your credit card information.

Are there any Newfoundland message boards?
Q. I'm planning a trip to Newfoundland this summer, and am looking for information other than the typical tourism sites. Does anybody know of message boards or websites I can find some more information? Thanks in advance.
Asked by bon b - Tue Jan 30 19:47:58 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. check out and I don't know if they have message boards, though. I think you might need to click on "virtual kitchen party" but when I tried, it was under construction. I find that a lot of the tourism sites don't give "typical" tourism info anyway. Newfoundland prides itself on being unique and having unique festivals. The site at the very end of all of my typing is pretty good. It makes my heart drop a little to see how wonderful everything is. I might be able to help with some information, but I would need to know more details about when and where you are going as well as what you are wanting to see. I moved here and did a lot of research before doing so. You could send me an e-mail if you would like. As far as finding chat… [cont.]

Do you ever go on movie message boards?
Q. I go on message boards for movies on IMDb, and all the time I see people bashing other people for liking a movie. But, if YOU hate the movie so much, then why to you persist on the board? Wouldn't you get tired of going on that board? I know it's based on EVERYONE's opinions, but why do you want to be on something you hate so much?
Asked by Z - Mon May 4 18:54:05 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I love IMDb. But I agree that the message boards can be a bit harsh. Have you checked out the "Oscar Buzz" and "Film General" boards? They're probably the worst. A bunch of people who fancy themselves major critics and film experts trashing each other because they have different opinions. People like that need to feel smarter than others for whatever reason. It gives them some sense of superiority that's obviously missing in their life. It's like people on here who go to the Religion and Spirituality Section (for example) and trash people who are religious or spiritual. For whatever reason, they need to feel better about themselves. One of the things I don't like about Yahoo! (and IMDb doesn't have this), is the front page with all… [cont.]

Did the end of the Yahoo News Message Boards lead to Yahoo's current financial worries?
Q. After Neil Budde took down the message boards, Yahoo lost all the ad revenue created by so many page hits. That forced them to lay off thousands of people. Now they are looking for someone to buy them out.

Q. Wy are you blocking first amendment right to free speech? Bring back discuss feature to the news items /reply message boards. i want to know what others think about topics.

A. I totally agree, if in fact you're referring to Yahoo message boards. So what if a few people like to start trouble by posting offensive (to some) messages? I can always skip over those. There have been some healthy discussions and debates on those message boards in the past. They should really bring them back. Not sure if it's a first amendment issue though. After all, it is THEIR board, and they can do what they want with them. However, they are really doing themselves a disservice by not allowing users to interact.

Why are message boards always filled with Israeli-Palestine ranters?
Q. Every one, even the Defiance message boards on the IMDB are filled with the lunatics that rant about Israel and Palestine? Why do so many people care? I'm sick of it.
Asked by Barracuda - Fri Jan 16 00:12:32 2009 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You know what galls me? First that they rant about the Israeli and Palestinian problems. Assuming the Palestinians got what they wanted, do you think there'd be peace there? I mean these people lie to everyone because they're desperate. And on the flip side, the Israelis are constantly being forced to use brute force in the face of people who harass them even when they do get what they want. So I am not surprised about the ranting. But truth of the matter is, there is no easy answer to that problem. Until the Palestinians and Israelis are through killing each other, or decide that its easier to live in peace with one another, there's going to be violence spilling out all over the region. I think it takes a national will to commit to… [cont.]

If you listen to music geared toward weight loss, then you will be constantly reminded of this, and hopefully can help you fight the temptation for that extra cookie. Does anybody know of any Religion Message boards where people are more respectful and tolerant?
Q. I enjoy the chatting that goes on here but I wouldn't mind being part of a religion message board where a person's faith isn't attacked all the time. I'm Mormon and I've got used to it here but I see people attacking atheists and vice-versa. I also see fellow Christians of different faiths attacking each other.

Someone wrote bad stuff about me on message boards. Googling my name shows these results first. What can I do?
Q. I think it might have been a previous employee that was terminated, but I cannot be certain. He or she wrote some horrible things about me and my wife on message boards. Essentially disparaging us and the way we run our company. It has caused severe distress in our lives. Contacting the message board operator has been useless. Either there is no response or there has been a response in broken English saying that they don't remove things. If I Google my name or my wife's name, this bad stuff is the first thing that appears. Specifically it says we are running an illegal business (we are not at all), and that we are making like $10 million a year and stashing it in an offshore bank account. Again -- ridiculous -- but it has caused stress --… [cont.]

A. The forum moderators are under no legal obligation to police what users post. If you believe you are the victim of libel, you should retain an attorney. Often times, even though I think it is wrong, just having legal counsel contact the forum will get them to take it down because they don't want to deal with the hassle of a lawsuit. If that doesn't work, then you should pursue going after the poster for libel. This may be a challenge as you may not able to positively identify who the poster is.
