The surface Web (also known as the visible Web or indexable Web) is that portion of the World Wide Web that is indexed by conventional search engines. The part of the Web that is not reachable this way is called the deep Web. Search engines construct a database of the Web by using programs called spiders or Web crawlers that begin with a list of known Web pages. The spider gets a copy of each page and indexes it, storing useful information that will let the page be quickly retrieved again later. Any hyperlinks to new pages are added to the list of pages to be crawled. Eventually all reachable pages are indexed, unless the spider runs out of time or disk space. The collection of reachable pages defines the surface Web.

For various reasons (e.g., the Robots Exclusion Standard, links generated by JavaScript and Flash, password-protection) some pages can not be reached by the spider. These 'invisible' pages are referred to as the deep Web.

A recent study queried the Google, MSN, Yahoo!, and Ask Jeeves search engines with search terms from 75 different languages and determined that there were over 11.5 billion web pages in the publicly indexable Web as of January 2005.

As of June 2008, the indexed web contains at least 63 billion pages.

Is $800 too much to repair surface scratches on a car?
Q. A few days ago while unloading off a BC ferry, the driver behind me collided into my rear-passenger quarter panel/bumper with his tire leaving thin surface scratches and a spider-web fracture in the paint (similar to a baseball hitting a glass window). You can't really notice the scratches unless you get close to it or there's plenty of sunlight. My boyfriend and I got a couple estimates, one being Craftsman Collision, and both were $800. Both shops recommended claiming it through ICBC; however, the driver doesn't seem hesitant about paying the total cost. Does $800 sound unreasonable? It hasn't gotten down to the metal, and no paint has been chipped. The scratches are about 1" long and probably 1nm deep.

A. The surface scratches could probably buff out without any repainting or touching up. But I'm concerned that the spider webbing is a cracking in either the clear coat or base coat. If that's the case then $800 might not be out of line. It doesn't take much damage to run up an $800 bill.

What exactly happens to your skin during a burn?
Q. Okay I am doing this report and I have not found a singe web-site explaining what exactly happens when your skin gets burned (NOT sunburns) ..For example when you grab something hot or accidently touch a hot surface but dont pull away or your reactions are slow what exactly happens to your skin. Please be descriptive. P.S The longer the answer the better and if you got the information from a website please put that down too. Thank you for your time everyone.

A. Normally the skin will dry out and then start to melt, like a chip if you leave it in the oven too long it will go brown and soft like when you burn your hand.
