Are there any web portals for people of color other than Black Planet?
Q. I have quickly burned out on Black Planet. I am just there to look for friends, and I get nothing but sexual notes, cam invites, and spams from sponsors. It does not bill itself as a dating site, but that looks like all there is. So, are there any other web portals geared towards people of color?
Asked by Purple Girl - Sun Jul 20 02:41:14 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I like www.BlackAmericaWeb.com, because I like to participate in discussion boards about pertinent matters (like the economy, politics, our children, success, etc) not just all the junk you see on Blackplanet (like spam, sex stuff, and advertisements).

What are drawbacks of using AJAX in web portals?
Q. Hello, I am web developer. I am confuse whether to use AJAX or not. Many times i read AJAX should not be used for security concerns. Can you please help me in understanding how is it threat? Thanks, Ravs

A. Pages dynamically created using successive Ajax requests do not automatically register themselves with the browser's history engine, so clicking the browser's "back" button may not return the user to an earlier state of the Ajax-enabled page, but may instead return them to the last full page visited before it. Workarounds include the use of invisible IFrames to trigger changes in the browser's history and changing the anchor portion of the URL when AJAX is run and monitoring it for changes. # Dynamic web page updates also make it difficult for a user to bookmark a particular state of the application. Solutions to this problem exist, many of which use the URL fragment identifier (the portion of a URL after the '#') to keep track of, and… [cont.]

A. Hi there, I looked into the 2 awnsers u have been given. The first one is no good as cookies and viruses are saved, plus u will be hit hard with Ads. I would reccomend that u go with 13floor as I too use that, and it works very well. Another good one that I use, and a very popular one at that too, is www.instantunblock.com Give these a try and see for your self. I have a few others (hundreds) that I can pull up for u if u need them. Hope it all goes well. Good Luck! Cheers

A. A web portal presents information from diverse sources in a unified way. Apart from the standard search engine feature, web portals offer other services such as e-mail, news, stock prices, information, and entertainment. Portals provide a way for enterprises to provide a consistent look and feel with access control and procedures for multiple applications, which otherwise would have been different entities altogether. Examples of a web portal are MSN, Yahoo!, AOL and iGoogle .

Q. The problem is search engines are indexing badly. Therefore I need human knowledge.

A. go to cruisecritic.com and go to the message boards. There is alot of info about each port and 1st hand reviews / experiences on the tours. You can book private tours directly with the tour operators and usually have a better experience for a better price than booking with the cruise line. There are sites like shoretrips.com and porttrips.com but you can get better prices booking the same stuff on your own.

Q. Plz explain.
Asked by Don't complicate things! :) - Fri Aug 15 10:03:25 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. A portal is generally a vehicle by which to gain access to a multitude of 'services'. A web site is a destination in itself. As such the term website refers to a location on the internet that is unique and can be accessed through a URL . By that definition a web portal is in fact also a website. However there is a distinction between the two terms based on the subject and content of the website. A website is also a web portal if; It transmits information from several independent sources that can be, but not necessarily are, connected in subject; thus offering a public service function for the visitor which is not restricted to presenting the view(s) of one author.
