An index fund or index tracker is a collective investment scheme (usually a mutual fund or exchange-traded fund) that aims to replicate the movements of an index of a specific financial market, or a set of rules of ownership that are held constant, regardless of market conditions. TrackingTracking can be achieved by trying to hold all of the securities in the index, in the same proportions as the index. Other methods include statistically sampling the market and holding "representative" securities. Many index funds rely on a computer model with little or no human input in the decision as to which securities are purchased or sold and is therefore a form of passive management. Lookning for a long term investment, is this the one or mutual funds better? Or Roth ira? Asked by tannerday225 - Mon Jun 2 17:28:41 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. An index fund IS a mutual fund - either a standard one or an ETF. It tracks the index, so will yield slightly less than that index (due to fund expenses). The index will be up some years and down others, but over the long term, the return has always been good. You can hold such a fund in a regular (taxable) acccount or in an IRA. Answered by jlf - Mon Jun 2 17:36:19 2008 Which discount broker should I use to trade mutual funds, index funds and etfs. Should I go with the cheapest? Q. Do some of them provide more variety of funds, if so which company? I'm talking about online investing ala Etrade, Scottrade, etc... Asked by jim - Fri Sep 28 15:04:46 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. If you plan on doing your own research and selections I would suggest Scottrade. They are cheaper than most of the discount brokers. If you want a broker that will provide investment advice, Etrade or TDAmeritrade are better choices. There are cheaper brokers, but don't expect the same customer service. Any broker will sell any mutual fund or etf. They all have a list of No transaction fee funds that they provide. That varies with the brokers. If that is an issue, Charles Schwab has the largest selection of NTF funds. Answered by walt17jr - Fri Sep 28 16:54:24 2007 Are there any video game industry mutual or index funds?
Q. Are there any funds that focus on the video game industry - game makers, console makers, etc. ? Asked by AmitA25 - Sat May 17 21:29:37 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Seems like a very narrowly focused area. You might have to do some research to find a fund that specializes in this area. One of Fidelity's Select funds might be what you are looking for: Leisure FDLSX, Software & Computer Services FSCSX, or Technology FSTPX. Go to Morningstar & see if these funds have the companies you are looking for. Otherwise, just buy the stocks themselves.
