Kitesurfing or kiteboarding is a surface water sport that uses the wind to pull a rider through the water on a small surfboard or a kiteboard (similar to a wakeboard). Generally kiteboarding refers to a style of riding known as freestyle or wake-style, whereas kitesurfing is more "wave-riding" oriented. These two styles usually require different boards and specific performance kites. A kitesurfer or kiteboarder uses a board with or without foot-straps or bindings, combined with the power of a large controllable kite to propel the rider and the board across the water. In 2006, the number of kitesurfers has been estimated at around 150,000 to 210,000, with 114,465 inflatable kites sold that same year. The sport is becoming safer due to innovations in kite design, safety release systems, and instructions. Riding styles have evolved to suit riders and conditions, such as wakestyle, waveriding, freestyle, freeride, jumping, and cruising. A kitesurfer off Long Beach, CaliforniaFrom Wikipedia under the

Perfect for learning and getting you first kiteboarding highs! Just remember: - Make sure you are buying the kite "complete" (with the bar) - As a beginner you must buy a 5 liner, NOT a 4 liner (for security and relaunch). Ideally you could try to find a "bow" or "flat" kite, but it is probably outside your budget. - If you want cheap, go for a BEST kite, such as a Yarga or Nemesis 05 or 06. You might even find a "flat" 2006 Waroo. - If you want a big choice, go for a big brand, a North Vegas 06 or a Rhino 05 which is one of the best kite ever; you can progress on it for ages... - Check the Forums they usually have "ads" sections: kiteforum.com,… [cont.] Answered by Jay - Mon Mar 10 05:38:49 2008 Are you interest in kite surfing in Hurghada send me your mail? Q. Some of my family is planning a summer vacation (no plans have been made haha) but we were thinking of some things to do. Would kite surfing be a fun activity for 1 or 2 days like take a lesson or something. Or would it be a waste of time cause we would need longer to actually be able to do it and have fun. All of the people are athletic (soccer, baseball, hockey, tennis, etc.) Ages of people that would try are 16, 20, 21, and maybe an adult in their 40s. Any info about kite surfing would be appreciated. How hard it is, how much strength is needed, and other info along those lines. I've done a pretty good amount of stunt kite flying, so I thought I'd pick it up pretty quickly, but there's a lot to be learned about how to fly a big kite and how to handle its performance. From what I understand, it generally takes about three lessons to get all the basics down. I only took one two-hour lesson because that's the way my schedule worked out. Nevertheless, it got me interested, and I'm hoping to take more lessons back here in Minnesota (as soon as the lakes warm up a bit). If you have time to take more than one lesson, it would definitely be worth it. You don't need a lot of strength, since the kite is attached to you through a harness. … [cont.] Answered by GrimJack - Fri Apr 17 17:03:46 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "kite surfing" kite surfing jpg
