From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A video game is an electronic game that involves interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device. The word video in video game traditionally referred to a raster display device. However, with the popular use of the term "video game", it now implies any type of display device. The electronic systems used to play video games are known as platforms; examples of these are personal computers and video game consoles. These platforms range from large computers to small handheld devices. Specialized video games such as arcade games, while previously common, have gradually declined in use. The input device used to manipulate video games is called a game controller, and varies across platforms. For example, a dedicated console controller might consist of only a button and a joystick. Another may feature a dozen buttons and one or more joysticks. Early personal computer games often needed a keyboard for gameplay, or more commonly, required the user to buy a separate joystick with at least one button. Many modern computer games allow, or even require, the player to use a keyboard and mouse simultaneously. Video games typically also use other ways of providing interaction and information to the player. Audio is almost universal, using sound reproduction devices, such as speakers and headphones. But other feedback may come via haptic peripherals, such as vibration force feedback. From Wikipedia under the

Why wouldn't a Japanese video game designer make video games starring Asian characters? Obviously there are exceptions, but to me it seems that the overwhelming majority of video games that come out of Japan feature characters that are white or of other non-asian races. Asked by johnny fettcakes - Thu Feb 12 22:39:59 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. Hi. I'm Japanese. I often play Final Fantasy. First it has something to do with criterion of beauty. In Japan, criterion of beauty is "double-edged big eyes" and "beautiful long nose" Exactly these features are characteristic of Caucasians looking. But please watch the characters well. They are not Caucasians.Caucasians have maturer looking than them. And skins are not so white. Characters have just "big eyes" and "beautiful nose". They don't belong any races. Second, when we play video games, we want to go in "dream world". I mean, far from real world.Things are changing and these days I can see many foreign people in my town but still now, for Japanese Westerners are rare. Q. My son will be going to the 10th grade. He will graduate from 9th grade in less than two weeks. He loves video games, but i'm wondering just like they have games for preschoolers on reading, if there is something out there that can teach while playing a short video game for high schoolers. Maybe he could even learn a few things ahead before he starts 10th grade. Asked by My two cents - Wed May 9 14:07:20 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. If he plays what he enjoys, he will learn more at a faster rate than being force fed a boring educational game. It's like riding a horse down a hill, the best was to get there is to loosen the reigns and trust the horse. I have been playing games since I was 11 and they have been the most significant enabler for me to reach the top of my profession. My advice, let him pick his own games and he will flourish.
