What information is transmitted when web surfing?
Q. When I link to a web site, information about me is transferred to the web site. For example, some web sites know my general location (city and state). How can I find out what information is being transferred? Is there a web site that lists information it receives when I link to it? Basically, I want to know how anonymous my web surfing really is for most purposes.

A. In addition to your IP address and the request headers, a website can use javascript and Flash to find out more about you and your system. Most web analytics packages (such as Google analytics) can tell you the screen size, number of screen colours, internet connection speed, Java version, Real Audio version, Windows Media version, Quicktime version, whether you have PDF support and the Flash version of your visitors along with lots of other things. Although I haven't seen anyone track this, Javascript could be used to determine exactly what time it is on your computer which could reveal personal habits such as browsing at 3am or during your lunch break. The request headers include things such as what languages you prefer and what… [cont.]

Does remote desktop help for web surfing on a slow local connection but fast internet on remote computer?
Q. I have slow local internet connection (<1Mbs) but i can setup a remote computer with faster internet connection (>7.2Mbs). Will web surfing be (significantly) faster if i set up remote desktop connection so that the slow local connection only needs to show the graphics of the remote computer, while the remote computer actually accesses the internet to fetch the web pages that i surf? Thanks.

A. not a chance, you are still limited by the slow connection receiving the information.

How can a network monitor my web surfing?
Q. At work when on web sites like banking, e mail, sports ect. how can a network monitor my web surfing. I mean I have personel information out there. Can my manager or anyone else see these? If I connect to a router on the road too like at e cafe where you can connect on the way to a client? How safe is my information?
Asked by Mike S - Mon Sep 7 19:09:19 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The answer is you do not own the network you use, so the owner is allowed to monitor that traffic as long as they give you fair warning. A network administrator is not interested in your traffic, but making sure you get from point a to point b, without any errors or congestion. A security guy is going to use third party software on the network that is configured to capture all your web surfing activitiy. If security has given permission to your Manager to view your information he might do so. Since this is the field I work, I would say 99% of the time, we don't care what you are surfing on the internet as long as it doesn't violate policy. You can rest assure your information is private, but know that "we're" watching. At an e cafe… [cont.]

A. Those jobs are very hard to get and even then, they are not really just 'web surfing' and the pay is not as good as what you think it is. First of all, with all due respect, why aren't you applying for ANY JOB? From fast food to gas stations, to farming, etc.. Second, are you trained and/or being trained even more? Do you only know how to surf? Do you have any skills such as web design, programming, business, marketing, writing skills? There are tons of jobs for outsourcing writing, and data entry, etc. Last, you may consider even opening your own business, SURFING! For example (I hope you don't consider this spam), you could surf online for certain sites that seem to be ugly, not well designed, etc, and write a nice letter offering… [cont.]

How to use memory card for web surfing for N73 ME?
Q. Hi, Does anyone know how to set the N73 ME to utilize the miniSD instead of using the phone memory when browsing the net via the phone? Reason is because I most of the time I get a memory full warning and it stops loading the web page. I have to restart the application. Thanks. Regards, Wilson.
Asked by Alouwz - Fri Jan 18 04:12:12 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. it can't be done, the N73 can't recognise external storage as system memory. the only thing you can do is transfer as much as possible from the phone to the card. you can save messages to the card instead of the phone and you can also transfer your contacts to your sim card, that will make a huge difference.

is it possible to see a user's web surfing habits without access to their computer?
Q. i don't have a keylogger on here but someone i know can tell me what my surfing habits are regardless. i have no viruses, i used hijackthis to confirm it. they have no access to my comp and it's passworded but I am on a wireless internet connection. wtf? vivek = wrong. already checked.

A. This might seem like a dumb question - but is this someone you work with, and are they seeing your surfing habits at work? If so then they probably have access to your company's web proxy logs. These are records of all Internet traffic going outbound through the company's network. If not, then how does this person know you? Friend, family, casual acquaintance? My guess is that they are somehow accessing your wireless router or they may be able to actually browse your PC over your wireless connection if you have set file shares up.

How do schools catch students web surfing?
Q. How do they block certain web sites?
Asked by Happy - Tue Jun 30 12:29:00 2009 - - 4 Answers - 1 Comments
A. There wireless access point or school computer has a web filter on it. The web filter will look for certain characteristic on the web page a computer is requesting. Then the web filter will decide to block it or not. Such options that a school could use is to block sites that have a social networking or proxy site characteristic, even if it shows a certain word (like "porn"), and/or have a manually set up.

Would this be an issue with what I am wanting to do?

A. Surfing and games, yes. Spreadsheets, no. The screen is too small and you'd have to magnify the spreadsheets quite a bit to work with them which would cause it to be very slow to work with them.

A. If you are using MS Vista, open the Volume Mixer (open the volume icon in your system tray and then click on Mixer) and make sure that all the programs in the list aren't muted and that they have proper volume level.

A. This is purely opnion not fact, but in my experience, these All-in-One Desktops can be built for so much less money. If you wish to spend the same amount of money, then you would be able to game i would say at least 10X better. Many desktops will advertise their superiority when really the specs they give you are nothing more than bull. To truely determine value you would have to dive much more into the depths of desktops but i would reccommend just asking or searching the web for suitable PC "builds". To build yourself a computer is fairly simple. Go on youtube and check out some of the videos. I learnt to build a computer in a little under twelve hours when i was ten years old.
