The World Wide Web, abbreviated as WWW and commonly known as the Web, is a system of interlinked hypertext documents accessed via the Internet. With a web browser, one can view web pages that may contain text, images, videos, and other multimedia and navigate between them by using hyperlinks. Using concepts from earlier hypertext systems, British engineer and computer scientist Sir Tim Berners-Lee, now the Director of the World Wide Web Consortium, wrote a proposal in March 1989 for what would eventually become the World Wide Web. He was later joined by Belgian computer scientist Robert Cailliau while both were working at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. In 1990, they proposed using "HyperText [...] to link and access information of various kinds as a web of nodes in which the user can browse at will", and released that web in December.

"The World-Wide Web (W3) was developed to be a pool of human knowledge, and human culture, which would allow collaborators in remote sites to share their ideas and all aspects of a common project."

How do you host one's resume on world wide web?
Q. I want to host my resume on world wide web for placement. I feel this way many more potential recruiters can access my resume and in return shall get an interview call in a much shorter time.

A. You're wasting your time by putting on your own site. You're better off just posting a Word file or, better yet, a PDF copy of your resume with a link, just as a convenience to people with whom you speak about a job. The only places they might search are the job sites like Monster and Dice, because there are thousands of resumes in one place at those locations.

How did the World Wide Web turn into a Cyber Battleground?
Q. I mean the computer was invented so people could use them without worrying about ID theft, viruses or spyware. How did the internet become a place for hackers to scam people? I mean the computer and world wide web was created WITHOUT security in mind.

A. You have almost answered your own question there. Initially, computers WERE designed without security in mind. Many of the problems we have today are caused by the mindset that was developed over thirty years ago when the number of computers in the world was smaller than the number of universities. The first worm ever created (The Morris worm) was made as an experiment to see how big the internet was but it grew too quickly and caused a meltdown. Some people saw an opportunity for better engineering and some people saw an opportunity for malicious DOS attacks. As more and more people started accessing the internet, the chances of some of them having more questionable ethics grew and these days it is almost impossible to avoid them. … [cont.]

When you first heard about internet and world wide web etc what did you think it was going to be?
Q. Look at us all here communicating all around the world like the internet has been with us forever. When I first heard about global villages etc when it was all just starting up I thought it was going to be like a united nations meeting place or something... what did you think the internet and web surfing was all about and going to be like?

A. I thought that it's application would be in the academic world and in small clusters of computers linked together to form work units within a specific entity, rather than the worldwide communication medium that it has become.
